The Genteel Companion

‘Finger: Division on a Ground in F’ featuring Richard Harvey on Recorders.

Details

“The Genteel Companion” was the title of a little book published in 1683 of instructions and tunes for the recorder, which at the time had superseded the flageolet as a fashionable and popular musical instrument. This exciting collection, from the gigue-like gestures of William Croft, to the variations of Jacob van Eyck and the immaculate and ornamented writing of Jean-Marie Leclair, features expressive yet remarkably well-controlled performances by Richard Harvey on treble, descant, and sopranino recorders.
